The Return | Sacred Spaces for Melanated Healing

Who We Are

The Return is a seasonal, embodied space for women who are learning to slow down, listen inward, and move through life with more presence and trust.

While this work was born from grief, it is not limited to grief.

The Return is for women navigating transition, growth, and becoming — whether that comes from loss, change, expansion, or simply living in a world that asks us to stay constantly “on.”

This is not about fixing yourself.
It’s not about pushing through.
And it’s not about becoming someone new.

It’s about returning to the body.
Returning to your own rhythm.
Returning to what feels true.

Through guided conversations, embodied practices, and seasonal gatherings, The Return offers space to soften safely, integrate what you’ve lived, and prepare for what’s next — without rushing the process.

Grief is one doorway.
But embodiment, presence, and trust are lifelong practices.

If your body is asking you to slow down, listen more closely, and move with intention — you belong here.

The Return is a sanctuary for spiritual healing and ancestral remembrance—created by and for melanated women. Founded by Surayyah Tatum Bey.

The Return is more than a retreat brand—it’s a sacred movement. We create spaces that feel like home. Through healing journeys, plant medicine, ritual, storytelling, and spiritual travel. The Return invites you to come back to your center, reclaim your roots, and remember your power. This is sacred, soft, and soul-led—just like you.

Founder’s Story | Surayyah Tatum Bey

The Return was born from lived experience — not theory.

I’ve always felt called to pour into women, especially those of us raised in communities where survival often comes before softness, and where rest, reflection, and spiritual exploration aren’t always accessible or modeled.

My own path of becoming has stretched me in every direction — mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially. It’s required me to slow down, question what I was taught about strength, and listen more closely to what my body and spirit were asking for.

After losing my husband, I took a mental health and wellness leave that became a turning point. By giving myself permission to pause — to feel instead of push — I reconnected with my voice, my intuition, and the ancestral wisdom I had always carried. That season didn’t just change me; it clarified my calling.

What became clear was this:
Many spiritual and wellness spaces weren’t built with us in mind.

Too often, non-religious spirituality comes with an unspoken performance — a look, a language, a way of being that feels disconnected from our lived realities. I used to wonder if I had to become a version of myself that didn’t feel true in order to belong.

But our healing doesn’t require performance.
Our divinity doesn’t require translation.
Our ancestral connection lives in us, as we are.

The Return is my offering — not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone walking the path with intention, integrity, and presence. It’s a space rooted in embodiment, seasonal rhythm, and emotional honesty.

My background spans over 15 years in global culture, DEI, employee experience, and wellbeing strategy across tech and media. Today, that experience meets spiritual practice through The Return — where I design spaces that honor the nervous system, center ancestral remembrance, and make room for softness without collapse.

Through live circles, rituals, retreats, storytelling, and seasonal gatherings, I create the kinds of spaces I wish had existed sooner — spaces that are sacred but grounded, reflective but accessible, and deeply human.

This work is meant to be sustainable, yes — but more importantly, it’s meant to be truthful.

Healing doesn’t require perfection.
It requires presence.
And the willingness to return to yourself.

This is my return.
And I’m creating space for yours.

A Memoir … Coming Soon.

Born in New York City and raised in a one-bedroom apartment with my mother, grandmother, and two younger sisters, I grew up learning how to live between worlds — private school by day, food stamps and skipped meals by night. From an early age, I learned how to adapt, how to carry weight quietly, and how to make sense of contrast.

This memoir traces my journey through childhood, abandonment, survival, love, motherhood, loss, and the long, quiet work of becoming. It explores what it means to live in a body shaped by responsibility, lineage, and resilience — and how we return to ourselves after years of holding everything together. This is not just a story about grief.

It is a story about integration. About identity. About remembering who you were before survival became a way of life.

Written alongside the healing work I now offer through The Return — including circles, rituals, retreats, and sacred storytelling — this book is an invitation.

Not to fix what’s been lived, but to sit with it. To honor it. And to gently come home to the self that endured it all.

This is my return.

And an open doorway for yours.

Follow my personal journey of healing through sacred solo travel.
Through vlogs, storytelling, and curated guides, I show you how to be alone with your spirit and still feel deeply held.
